00117 - Foot in mouth disease

Updated: Mar 10, 2023

Have you ever been in a situation where your mouth spoke before your brain told it what to say? Then when you tried to fix it or smooth it over, it just made matters worse, you didn’t just put your foot in it, you dug a hole for yourself and just jumped right in.

Ephesians 4:29 says ‘Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen’ (NIV).

We never enjoy it when we’re on the receiving end of someone’s tongue and certainly not if someone made a snide remark or nasty comment to us. We have to learn how to keep our tongue under control. If you have put your foot in it, then go and apologise. Learn how to control your tongue before it wrecks the occasion.

Quote Sometimes it’s just better to say absolutely nothing.

Prayer

Lord help me to control my tongue, that it would build up and not pull anyone down, Amen.

Action Point Sometimes sending a thank you card or a sorry card is worth more than the risk of digging a bigger hole for yourself by speaking!
