00379 - Fathers

I had no idea what it was to become a father until it happened with the birth of Reuben. Emotionally it felt like I was a strong eagle, enveloping this little bundle of joy with my wings. I knew then I would be his protector, life educator, humour teacher and authority figure.

Proverbs 23:24 says, ‘The father of a righteous child has great joy; a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him.’ (NIV)

Someone once said everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial. This phrase is key when we look at our actions compared to God’s direction. The role model for us as earthy fathers is our Heavenly Father. When we make mistakes, we should learn from them; it builds character. That character is what we convey to our children. A steady hand of fatherhood demonstrated to our children will help steer them through life's journey.

Quote Most things in life are permissible; not everything is beneficial.

Prayer

Thank You, Lord, for fathers; help them all to mirror that fatherhood You display. Amen.

Action Point

If you can, encourage any father you know, they may be facing an issue where they don’t know what to do.
