The gift of tongues, also known as glossolalia, is one of the spiritual gifts available to us as believers. This gift is characterised by the ability to speak in languages not previously known to the speaker, often described as our heavenly language.
In 1 Corinthians 14:2 (NASB), the Apostle Paul explains, "For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries." According to this verse, the gift of tongues is primarily a means of communication with God, expressing mysteries that surpass our understanding.
However, Paul also emphasises that this gift, like all spiritual gifts, must be exercised in love and for the church's edification. Therefore, while the gift of tongues is a beautiful manifestation of the Holy Spirit's work, it should always be used with wisdom and by God's guidance through His grace.
Quote Tongues helps us develop a deeper communion with God.
