Dementia is so unforgiving. That slow journey of loss can be heartbreaking and puts so much of life on hold. Maintaining our faith is very important. Remember, the body, not the spirit, is failing. The spirit doesn’t have dementia and never will. That’s who you will be united with in Heaven.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18 says, ‘Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.’ (NIV)
Keep focussed on Jesus, He will lead and guide you. It’s fine to cry. Yet never forget, your overall assurance is being re-united in time for eternity.
Quote The body we live in will fade; our spirit will live forever.
Prayer
Lord, I pray that the journey through dementia ends in a celebration of a life well lived. Amen.
