00153 - You become what you focus on
Updated: Mar 10
There is simple and clear advice in Colossians 3:2 ‘Let heaven fill your thoughts; don’t spend your time worrying about things down here.’ (TLB)
Although the advice in this verse is clear, most Christians find it hard to do. We get so distracted by bad news, difficult circumstances, or just the constant media bombardment we experience each day, whether soap operas on TV or social media, occupying so much of our time.
When your input is focussed on reading or watching negative things, your mind is not filled with thoughts of heaven. If you swap that perspective and start the day with your mind filled with thoughts of God, your outlook on life will be positive and uplifting. Give it a try, commit to listening to worship more, reading your bible more or just having a daily chat with a friend about God, you’ll be amazed how different you feel.
Quote
We become like Christ when we focus on Him more than anything else.
Prayer
Lord, let my focus be less on negative media and more focussed on you, I pray in Jesus name, Amen.
Action Point If you watch TV, challenge yourself to not watch it for a week and replace the time with a good encouraging book, read the Bible and pray.
