00154 - He tried to blow up parliament

Updated: Mar 10, 2023

Guy Fawkes was born in 1570, a devote Catholic born in York. He moved to Spain and became part of the eighty-year war against the Protestant Dutch reformers. A group of friends including Fawkes wanted to see a Catholic Monarch in the UK. With his cohorts, he came back to the UK from Spain intending to assassinate King James I. They found a way to place gunpowder bomb within Westminster’s House of Lords. Fawkes was found guarding the bomb, was arrested, and then tortured. The UK has celebrated the failed Gun Powder plot ever since.

Romans 13:1 says, ‘Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established.’ (NIV)

Fawkes forgot that God has a part to play in how leads any Government, let’s not forget to pray for those in authority even if we don’t agree with what they do.

Quote

Whether we like it or not, God is involved in who leads Government.

Prayer

Lord, help me to pray with intelligence for the Government over us, that they might make Godly decisions, Amen.

Action Point Don’t forget to pray for our leaders, we will only collectively know in Heaven, the impact of our prayers.
