00170 - Beatitudes - those that mourn

Updated: Mar 10, 2023

It almost seems impossible to understand how you can be blessed when you mourn. Matthew 5:4 says ‘Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted’. (NKJV). When we grieve, we miss the person we have lost, who they were, what they did, how they impacted our lives. We gave up a piece of ourselves in the process of coming to terms with their death.

To be blessed means, we are made holy, consecrated. It’s as if in our grief we go through a filter of asking ourselves what is important in life, and leave the trivial, irrelevant stuff, that we thought so important behind.

This very short portion of scripture carries so much insight. In our grief, we get to understand what is important, and within that find the comfort of God. We are given insight through grief of eternity, through the love and sacrifice of Jesus.

Quote

Grief reveals to us what is important in life - and highlights eternity.

Prayer

Father, help us in our loss to understand eternity more, we crave your comfort and direction, Amen.

Action Point

It’s always good to have some long chats with your pastor or close friends when you have loss to get a perspective to move forward in life with.
