Fasting involves setting aside food or other comforts to focus on prayer, reflection, and seeking God’s will. In Matthew 6:17-18 (NCV), Jesus says, “When you fast, comb your hair and wash your face. Then people will not know that you are fasting, but your Father, whom you cannot see, will see you. Your Father sees what is done in secret and will reward you."
Through fasting, we humble ourselves before God, showing our dependence on Him rather than on worldly things. It clears our minds and hearts, allowing God to speak and work. It can bring spiritual breakthroughs, clarity in decision-making, and strength in difficult times.
Fasting also deepens our prayer life and sharpens our spiritual focus. It helps us listen more intently to God's voice and aligns our desires with His purpose. By fasting, we tap into God’s power and experience a closer, more intimate relationship with Him.
