In Christ Alone

Carl Brettle

Updated: Feb 17

In the first collaboration between Stuart Townsend and Keith Getty, this song was released in 2001. Keith focused on writing most of the music, while Stuart focused on writing the lyrics. The song is recognised as one of the most influential hymns of the century and was played during the enthronement of Justin Welby as Arch-Bishop of Canterbury.

The song draws on several passages of scripture which speak of Jesus’ influence and majesty, His power and strength through His journey to the cross and defeat of the evil one leading to His resurrection. The first scripture the song touches on is John 14:6, which says, ‘…I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’ (NIV)

You will be carried into worship when you sit and listen to the lyrics. This song truly builds faith amidst the busyness of life.

Quote Jesus gave humanity its greatest gift through His sacrifice.

Prayer

Thank You, Lord, for your Son's servanthood, giving His life for me to experience eternity. Amen
