We always tell our son that first impressions count. Turning up on time; the way you shake a hand, whether you say please or thankyou. Also, serve before you are served and go the extra mile even when you don’t need to.
1 Samuel 16:7 says, ‘…The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.’ (NIV) It’s the heart we are focussed on with our son. Not to be selfish, not to be a brat, not to think of himself better than anyone.
When our heart is right, our actions will align with that. If we carry bitterness, we will act bitter. We won’t seek to help anyone when we have a selfish heart. Once your relationship with Jesus is firm and sure, your everyday actions will reflect your love and passion for Him.
