Imagine the scene as Jesus made His humble way into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey. People celebrated by waving large palm leaves - hence the name Palm Sunday. The irony, is that just five days later, the celebration turned to cruxifixction and the hope of the moment seemed lost.
When looking back we see how distant society was and still is from God. To one minute be celebrating and heralding the promise of the Messiah and then within days turning their back on the Christ, preferring their own destiny.
John 12:13 says ‘They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting,“Hosanna!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Blessed is the king of Israel!” (NIV) Today we know the history and we know the journey, we can celebrate that this day began a week which would reconcile man to God, Hallelujah!
