In his book ‘Informed Intercession’, George Otis lays out the need for spiritual mapping and strategic prayer, for the sake of seeing transformation in our region. Spiritual mapping is basically researching the issues your region faces and to strategic prayer from that, speaks for itself.
When you find out what the crime, drugs, domestic violence and levels of deprivation are around you, the information helps to immediately pray in a different way. The research literally informs you of what you should focus on as a priority.
This style of intercession brings the immediate and urgent felt need of your area to the throne room of God. We then exercise faith in prayer, seeking change in each of those areas. 1 Corinthians 14:15 says ‘So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding…..’ (NIV) Now is the time to pray!
