Fanny Crosby, the blind hymn writer in 1873 listened to a new piece of music written by Phoebe Palmer Knapp. When asked by Knapp, what she thought, Crosby replied, ‘Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine’. That one moment between two friends resulted in a song, which has touched hundreds of millions of people over the last 130 or so years.
Crosby’s walk of faith was inspired by Philippians 1:21 – ‘For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain’.
When you are lost in the Saviour’s love (as the song suggests) your life becomes an extension of God’s will and Kingdom. You cannot help but express grace, mercy, love, and peace. Your life becomes the fruit of God’s labour within you. The blessed assurance in your life is your salvation, the purchase of God, born of His Spirit and washed in His blood. Thank God today for your eternal salvation.
